The Australian Pearl Jewellery Design Competition 2017 celebrates the iconic Australian South Sea Pearl, which is both beautiful and rare.

Chris, who designed and hand-made the beautifully individualistic brooch/pendant, was inspired to create the piece from her experience snorkelling in the Maldives.

“I thought I was dreaming when I saw the coral reefs in the Maldives. I felt like I was going through a magical forest under the sea. Beautiful, lush, colourful, peaceful and so surreal. It was an unforgettable experience for a first snorkelling experience,” Chris recalls.

“The Coral Brooch/Pendant is my humble tribute to the beauty of the sea. The focus of the piece is a beautiful South Sea Pearl within a coral. Three small blue sapphires complement the piece.

“In keeping this piece as natural as possible, it was fabricated at my bench from a sheet of fine silver. Textures were added to emulate a real coral. No casting was involved. Coral can be worn as a brooch or as a pendant. It’s an individualistic piece of jewellery.”
